Both diesel and gas boilers are suitable for heating of residential buildings or industrial facilities. Each system has its peculiarities and conditions of use. They are similar by some parameters, but there are also significant differences. The main difference is the fuel.
Diesel boiler rooms
The source of energy for such boilers is liquid diesel fuel. For its storage and supply to the burner, the diesel boiler is equipped with a special fuel system, which the gas one does not have.
The fuel system includes:
- storage tank for diesel fuel,
- filters for fuel purification,
- pipe system,
- pump to supply fuel to the burner.
Tanks for diesel boiler rooms are vertical of volume from 800 to 4000 litters. They are installed in the boiler room or outside the building to simplify the access of the filling vehicle.
One of the advantages of a modular diesel boiler room is that it is easier to obtain a permit for installation than for a gas boiler room. Diesel fuel is less explosive, so the requirements for diesel boiler rooms are less rigid.
In terms of performance, the boiler room on liquid fuel is not inferior to the gas boiler one. Diesel boiler rooms are easy to maintain because they have a lot of equipment that can be automated. Control of boilers and equipment and measuring devices adjustment is carried out by the operator, trained to work with the diesel boiler rooms.
An average fuel consume of a modern diesel boiler room is up to 1 liter per hour per 100 square meters of the room. This system is much more expensive than a gas system, but when there is no connection to a centralized gas supply, the diesel becomes the best option for heating.
Gas boiler rooms
The source of energy for this system is natural gas. Gas boiler room is based on the combustion of fuel, while the produced heat diffuses throughout the facility through the pipes. The gas equipment of the boiler room has an automatic gas supply system that blocks the fuel supply in case of a leak or accident.
Advantages of gas boiler rooms in terms of maintenance:
- small size,
- sustainability,
- high efficiency,
- low cost of fuel (compared to diesel)
- simple installation.
Gas boiler room in a private house is the best option for a cost-effective heating. But it is important to take into account all requirements for private gas boiler rooms. They concern the possibility and safety of gas equipment installation:
- sufficient area of the gas boiler room (depends on the boiler’s capacity),
- natural light,
- water supply and sewerage,
- ventilation,
- gas monitoring system, etc.
To assure the good operational state and efficiency of the equipment of the gas boiler room its maintenance is required. These services are provided by specialized organizations. High capacity industrial boilers are significantly more expensive to maintain than private household boilers.
